The 4th of July is a holiday filled with fun, fireworks, friends/family, and delicious food.

When hosting a cook-out/BBQ I often get tired of the same old burgers, hotdogs/brats, chips, and maybe store bought veggie and fruit plate if you are lucky.  Dessert, if there at all, is usually boring.

Change up your barbecue with some of these recipes:

  • Grilled Pineapple Teriyaki Black Bean Burgers- Healthy and Delicious
  • Gma's Fruit Dip- 2 Ingredients
  • Chicken Pasta Fruit Salad
  • Cookies and Cream S'mores Cookie Bars
  • Sweet and Simple Fresh Strawberry Pie
  • A Texan's Thick Texas Sheet Cake

  • These Fudgy Dark Chocolate Toffee Brownies would also make a great addition to your weekend.  They are thick, full of fudge and gooey goodness, a not so boring brownie with the Toffee/Heath bar bits thrown in there to surprise you, nut free, and all around delicious. Plus, you can make them ahead of time and have a less stressful holiday.

If you like Heath Bars and gooey fudgy brownies then this easy from scratch recipe is perfect for you.

    Inactive Time: 1 hour
    Servings: 12-16 brownies

    3/4 c. butter, unsalted
    1 c. milk chocolate chips
    4 oz unsweetened chocolate
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    4 eggs, large

    2. Spray/grease a 8x8 or 9x9 inch baking pan.
    3. Add the butter, milk chocolate chips (semi-sweet if you want the brownies to be even more dark chocolate), and unsweetened chocolate in a medium/large microwaveable bowl.
    4. Melt the bowl contents on a chocolate setting (if your microwave has that) or in 30 second intervals stirring after each interval until the butter and chocolate is smooth.  Be sure not to scorch/burn your chocolate.
    5. Add the sugar and stir it into the bowl contents.
    6. Add the eggs one at a time stirring after each addition.
    7. Add the flour and stir until just combined.
    8. Finally, stir in the toffee bits until just combined.
    9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, and bake at 325 for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
    10. Let the brownies cool, unless you want super gooey brownies.
    11. Serve brownies at room temperature or chilled with milk.
    12. Enjoy!
