Green Smoothie Magic

Green smoothie magic is only 4 ingredients, easy to make, toddlers love them, and you'll feel better drinking it. Alohamora Open a Book http://alohamoraopenabook.blogspot.com/

I am on a health kick this week.  Yesterday, carrot cake aka vegetables and today a green smoothie, but maybe it's all about Easter colors.  Orange carrots yesterday and green spinach today.

For whatever reason, I must say that carrot cake makes carrots taste amazing, and green smoothies make spinach taste heavenly.

I call this Green Smoothie Magic b/c it is a magical drink.  If I am not feeling so fabulous or sluggish or just not myself, I whip up a green smoothie and I'll feel better.  It seems to have magical healing powers for me... or maybe it is a mindset.

However, I call this drink magic b/c my toddlers think Green Smoothies are dessert.  I can get them to do absolutely anything for a green smoothie, and I feel great about giving it to them b/c it's full of spinach and fruit and loads of nutrients they need.

I have had friends struggle to get their kids to eat fruits and/or veggies.  I'm super lucky b/c my kids think green smoothies are amazing and want to drink it.  Therefore, I never worry about them getting the nutrients they need b/c they get so nutritious goodness in this one little drink.

Now, I know there are a million green smoothie recipes out there.  However, I've had a plethora of people ask for my recipe when they hear I drink them all the time.  To be honest, you have to find out what combination works for you.  This recipe works for me.  If you love bananas throw one in; you can even freeze your bananas and throw them in. If you want your smoothie thicker add more frozen fruit and lessen the juice/water.  You just have to make the changes that fit your needs and tastes.

Active Time: 5 minutes
Inactive Time: 0 minutes
Servings: Makes about 2 1/2 cups.  So, 1 hearty or 2-3 normal servings.

Ingredients:

2 c. spinach, washed
1 c. frozen fruit
2/3 c. orange juice
1 c. water

Directions:

  1. In a large cup or blender pack in 2 large handfuls of spinach.  When I push the spinach down into the cup it usually is around 2 cups.
  2. Add the frozen fruit on top of the spinach in the cup.  I like to use frozen fruit, but I have thrown in fruit from my fridge as well.  Costco has large bags of frozen fruit for the best price I've seen.
  3. Add your water and orange juice and then blend to your desired consistency.  I have used a blender as well as an immersion blender.  The immersion blender is uber helpful for this size of batch, but if you need to double it for larger crowds a blender would work best.
  4. Enjoy!
Holler if you have questions, otherwise enjoy this deliciously healthy drink for breakfast, snack, or a dinner anytime.
