Allegiant aka Divergent #3

All in all, I have thoroughly enjoyed this dystopian series.  I think I would give the entire series a 4 out of 5 stars. Personally, and maybe being generous b/c I like the series, I would give Allegiant 4 out of 5 stars.  It is a great book with some flaws, but a good read nonetheless.  However, I am excited to see what else Veronica Roth is going to write.  I sure hope she isn't a one hit book series wonder.

Though an important tidbit about this series, you most definitely need to read them in order, and if they are fresh in your mind it'll be a lot better.

Now onto my thoughts on the book...

If you haven't read the book, or you don't want to ruin the surprise stop reading.  You have been warned. :)

First off, I realize everyone had thoughts and guesses on what was "outside the fence," but I thought it was a bit cheesy to have it be soTruman Show-esgue with people aka the Bureau watching.  I guess I was just hoping for something more original.

I would also have to say that I didn't love, but I didn't hate the alternating viewpoints/narrators between Tris and Tobias/Four.  To be honest though, I wasn't always completely sure who I was reading about; at times I had to flip back to the beginning of the chapter to see who was narrating.  I would think that that is less than ideal as far as writing is concerned.  As a result of the alternating narrators I think it was harder to become attached to the book, and it wasn't nearly as much of a page turner.

Lastly, I know some people absolutely hate that Tris died.  Even though I wanted the happy ending, I think the ending was more realistic.  However, I am still sad that she died.  I would've liked to see her end with Tobias, and I know everyone feels the same way.  I do think that the climax of the book and the plot to change the memory of those that are Genetically Pure biased to not knowing/caring about the difference was a nice balance/compromise and it was the ending that I wanted to see.  That part of the story was the happy ever after I had hoped for, but having Tris killed was not.  I teared up reading it while I was on my lunch break at work... ridiculous, I know.

I would say that I was happy with the book and the trilogy, hence the decent rating.  However, I do think it could've been better.  Divergent was most definitely the best book in the series, and Insurgent was my least favorite.  Allegiant was a pretty good story though, and a worthy completion to the series.
