I love Fall.  I love Autumn.  I love the newness of school and honeymoon period that exists with your class.  I love the cooler weather (not that we get that in Arizona, boo!) and the leaves changing.  I love apples and pumpkins fabulous fairs.  I really do love Fall, and I love passing that love for the season onto the kids through picture books.  As a mom we check out a million books all dealing with Fall.  As a teacher I would have numerous activities and lessons centered around Autumn.  As a librarian I would teach about the seasons and life cycles of plants as well as put on display all sorts of fabulous Fall books.

These sixteen books are truly some of the best picture books dealing with pumpkins, apples, cooler weather, leaves changing colors and falling to the ground, and all things Fall related.

16 Fabulous Picture Books Dealing w/ All Things Fall/Autumn

An absolutely beautiful and wonderfully written story about a bear witnessing Fall for the first time as he is concerned when he sees a leaf fall.
Best for all ages.

A fun and eye catching picture book depicts how you can find beauty and fun, a leaf man, in the simple things of a fallen leaf.  Lesson idea for preschool and Kindergarten is to make your own leaf man.

A classic Fall picture book that is incredibly visually appealing as it showcases the life cycle of a tree.

A boy, who is forced outside away from video games, decides to wait for the very last, and lucky, leaf to fall.  The writing is okay, but the format and pictures are what makes this book really fun.
Best for Preschool to 2nd Grade

An alphabet book with 26 poems each dealing with something during Fall.   You can read the poems individually or all collectively as a story.  It is great both ways, and a great value for a book.  This book would make a great writing activity for intermediate grade teachers.  Having the class make a seasons poetry book or individuals as well  The lesson ideas are endless.
Best for 1st through 6th Grade

A basic book about what makes the season Autumn from the things you see to the things you can do with your family.
Best for Toddlers to Kindergarten

A repetitive story that starts and ends with an apple pie, but talks bout how everything is connected with the tree, roots, sun, rain, earth, etc.
Best for Toddlers to First Grade.  Though it could be easily used for lessons in the upper grades.

A fun mix up of all things Autumn/Fall related.  All things from Septober to Octember to Geese hibernating and squirrels flying south get confused.  This silly and fun book will be enjoyed by many ages.  Creative teachers could come up with "What if..." writing prompts about things in the season mixing up. Best for Preschool and Up

This book is a teachers dream when it comes to teaching Word Choice for the upper grades.  Wonderfully written with gorgeous pictures.
Best for 2nd Grade through 6th Grade
