March Book Madness

I LOVE absolutely everything about this March Book Madness idea! 

I love March Madness.  I love books.  I love getting kids excited about books. I love competitions.  I just love it all!

I also love the Tar Heels!  Go Heels!

  

If you are a librarian or a classroom teacher please do March Book Madness!   Seriously, it's too awesome not too and there are far too many benefits from it to ignore such greatness. 

Plus, I really really would love to do this if I only had a library or classroom to do it in, so please oh please do it for me and let me live vicariously through you.  Please?!

Below is a 5th grade classroom teacher's Tournament of Books.

If you are on the fence about whether you should put forth the effort to do March Book Madness and a Book-itology check out this persuasive article by Tony Keefer here. 

It doesn't matter if you are a Kindergarten teacher or a high school librarian.  You can pull this off for any grade or reading level and in the classroom or school wide in the library.

I love that this Kindergarten teacher used all Dr. Seuss books.    

 You can even check out the official March Book Madness website and use the books everyone is using. The official website has a form you can fill out which will then go to a map to show where everyone is from that is participating.  Students will love that!

As a reminder, to vote for the teams aka books that get into the tournament you have to complete/submit your vote by Tuesday, February 24th! 

The website for voting/brackets are for picture book bracket, middle grade book bracket, and YA/Teen book bracket.  However, if you want to tailor it a bit more to your classroom or library feel free to pick whichever books you want. 

I've seen teachers and librarians use specific genres, all the same author, books that have been checked out the most so far that year, and so many other options. 

Basically, the  options are endless.  Have fun and Book-itology on.     

It's a wonderful time of year, but it is even better time of year when you can get kids excited about books.
